Standard Procedure for Weld Penetration Inspection of Copper Sheets–Precision Control of Weld Quality

This inspection is carried out on the copper sheet welding samples entrusted by the customer. Weld penetration is a core indicator for judging the weld strength, crack resistance and connection reliability of welded copper sheets. Accurate measurement of weld penetration can avoid the risks of cold welding and weld detachment from the source, and ensure the stability and safety of the product during subsequent service. The following are the detailed implementation steps of this inspection:

Below are the welded copper sheet samples sent by the customer for inspection.

1.Metallogaphic specimen cutting

A professional metallographic cutting machine is adopted to cut samples that contain the complete weld seam, heat-affected zone and base metal in the direction perpendicular to the weld seam, ensuring that the weld cross-section is fully exposed. Water-cooling temperature reduction technology is activated throughout the cutting process to timely dissipate the heat generated during cutting, thus preventing the metallographic structure of the copper sheet from secondary deformation caused by high temperature and avoiding the impact on subsequent inspection accuracy.

2.Grinding and polishing for metallographic specimen

A fine-to-coarse pre-grinding procedure is applied to eliminate scratches left by rough grinding, which significantly reduces the surface roughness of the sample.Subsequently, polishing is performed: the fine-ground sample is placed on a polishing machine and finely polished with diamond polishing paste and ultrafine fiber polishing cloth until the sample cross-section becomes smooth and flat, presenting a uniform mirror finish with no visible scratches to the naked eye.

3.Observation and measurement by welding penetration metallographicmicroscope

1) Sample Cleaning: Wipe and clean the polished sample cross-section with anhydrous ethanol to remove residual polishing paste and impurities on the surface; then dry the sample thoroughly and place it under a weld penetration stereo microscope

2)Weld PenetrationMicroscope Observation: Adjust the lens focal length and magnification to clearly capture the fusion line of the weld cross-section, as well as the boundary contours between the weld zone and the base metal.

3)Precision Measurement: Use the weld penetrationmicroscope’s measurement software to calibrate the vertical distance from the fusion line to the weld root. Repeat the measurement three times and take the average value to obtain the final accurate weld penetration data.

Above welding penetration test for copper sheet is taken by Model SC-2000, which is the hot selling one of welding penetration metallographic microscopes in our company. Welcome your nice enquiry !
