As we all know, adding more types of metals to an alloy tends to embrittle the material. However, high-entropy alloys (HEAs) are different from conventional alloys: they contain multiple metals yet do not exhibit embrittlement, making them a new class of materials.
In industrial production, ensuring the stability and consistency of high-entropy alloy products is crucial. For this reason, Vickers hardness testers are used to conduct hardness tests on high-entropy alloys during the production process, which enables timely detection of potential quality issues. If the hardness value deviates from the expected range, it may indicate flaws in the production process—such as inaccurate control of alloy composition or improper heat treatment procedures. By adjusting the production process promptly, each batch of high-entropy alloy products can meet quality standards, thereby improving the product qualification rate and reliability.
We receive sample below needed to be tested hardness.

Processes of hardness testing of HEA by Vickers hardness tester

1.Make sampe preparation of this HEA into standard sample block by an automatic mounting press, the we can test its hardness by Vickers hardness tester after grinding and polishing.

2.Place the sample on the workbench center steadlily of the Vickers hardness tester.

3.Adjust the objective focus to display clear image in the Vickers hardness tester software.

4.Set parameters of the tested HEA sample in the Vickers hardness tester software.

5.The indenter make a rhombus indentation on HEA sample surface, then click Auto Measurement button to get hardness value in the Vickers hardness tester software.

6.Statistical Function: records the measured values of each group and automatically eliminates outliers.

7.Statistical Function:Calculate the mean value and standard deviation.
Above HV hardness value of the HEA is tested by Model HVT-50A, which is the hot selling type of Vickers hardness testers in our company.
